Welcome to today’s post. The post that i created for February – March (click here to read) was such a hit that we are on it with another one! The spring is really showing its true colours in Scotland recently, we have been getting weather above 10 degrees and some sun, which is enough for all the fashion lovers to go crazy on bright colours! Yes… i can raise my hand to that too, but shoosh.
This time, April – May only sees three trends compared to five in the last review. We have now dropped Patriot Brights, Utility Luxe, Utility Grunge and Global Traveller.
The new trends are:
Maybe the name hasn’t changed as such for this one, however, there is a different concept behind it. The key colour combination of Red, White & Oxford Blue, is incorporated into gingham checks and floral patterns. A fresh addition to the palette also includes Yellow and Hot Pink! All-over floral embroidery creates a cool summer vibe to it.
Furthermore, ties, deconstructed stripes and exaggerated silhouettes add a contemporary feel to it. Off the shoulder items are the must have! Shirts and tops are often pulled down and have volume sleeves, sometimes called “bell sleeves”.
Pretty Utility is where Utility becomes ever so feminine; with a lighter base prints, luxurious looking pearl and gem embellished pieces, clean statement logos and lighter wash ripped and torn denim. My absolute favourite type of New Look jean from this trend is for sure flower embroidered, light denim mom jeans!
Elements of the Orient weave itself in with gorgeous, East-inspired patterns and prints. In addition, d ring, drawstring and zips are key details here. Metallic elements add another dimension appearing in key outwear shapes.
This is basically a feminine story made up of layering pieces together in pretty folk floral prints and floaty soft fabrications, lace and cutwork in soft colours, mixed black with studs and tiny hardware trims to toughen up the prettiness.
The key print for this trend is Ditsy florals set on long dresses and skirts to add to its feminine edge. Lots of outfits look stylish while layered together; for example, some ripped distressed jeans worn under a black mesh skirt and a graphic tee.
My ultimate favourite fashion statement at the moment is wearing fishnet tights under ripped jeans. I love how it looks paired with a lovely embroidered belt & the fishnet peeking through on the tummy area as well.
I think that the trends are only getting better and better, just remember that every high street store follows a very similar trend routine as New Look does. Whether you go into Primar, River Island or Topshop – you will 100% recognise the above trends but at different price points.
My favourite trend here must be Folk Grunge, i love wearing band tees and the fishnet tights!
